"C" is for Cookie... and Crisis... and Connection Editor's Message
"Tragedy" can be defined in countless ways... but let’s be realistic, a pareve dessert is a whole new brand of awful. Sponge cakes, those ambiguous cookie-candy concoctions – the pareve world is just bad news. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if you could help the "tragedy" in Israel and remove the "tragedy" of dreadful desserts from your Shabbat table at the same time? Totally, totally possible. Do some online shopping for pareve, but not pareve-tasting, chocolate chip cookies baked by friends and visitors of the JCC in Manhattan, at www.millioncookies.com. The chef is from Levana, a fabulous kosher eatery in Manhattan, and they’re aiming to raise $500,000 for the Israel Emergency Solidarity Fund. On a more serious note, this issue of KOC has so much in it that can help us understand the world and ourselves better. In "Five Questions, Five Minutes" we’ve explored a very touchy subject, anti-Semitism. In our D’var Tefila section, members of our community have opened up to share their emotional stories of loss and remembrance, in relation to yizkor. We have an excellent interview with a real-life mitzvah hero, too – and it’s only Tishrei. Be a part of making KOC possible! Join Team KOACH by emailing me and let’s make 5763 a banner year for our e-zine and our kehila. Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Audrey Shore [Posted 8/20/02]
