A Fond FarewellThis month, as part of the transformation and reorganization of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, KOACH bids farewell to three beloved friends and colleagues. Rabbi Shalom Kantor is helping to transform Jewish life on the Binghamton University campus. For the past three years he has done so in cooperation with KOACH, providing a serious and meaningful outlet for Conservative Jewish life on the Binghamton campus for the first time in its history. While the KOACH/Binghamton partnership has come to an end, Rabbi Kantor will continue to serve that campus, bringing joy, hospitality and a little shehitah (he is trained in ritual slaughter) to that community. Rabbi Helene Kornsgold has been our cheerful , part-time, West Coast presence for the past two years. With her help we have been able to reach a segment of the student population which is far too often neglected. Watch for her study packet on Kabbalat Shabbat, coming soon to the KOACH website and a real gift to us all. Abe Fried-Tanzer’s long and accomplished tenure with KOACH began as an undergrad involved with the KOACH community at New York University. While still a student he served as a KOACH intern and then as editor of KOACH on Campus. Following graduation, he joined our staff as our Field Worker and spent the year visiting campuses, teaching about film and cheering everyone around him with his ready smile, his buoyant personality and his willingness to do anything and everything in the service of his work. All three will be sorely missed. The hard work and dedication they have shared with us have made a difference in the lives of countless students. As KOACH moves forward, we are privileged to bring their indelible imprint forward with us. May they (and we!) go from strength to strength. Y’yasher Kohakhem!!
