Campus Update: McGill UniversityBy Daniel Hochbaum Hey everybody, Things up here in the Great White North have been quite busy. This semester, KOACH McGill has teamed up with the Kolot Rabbim, the student-run egalitarian minyan, and together our community has been growing by leaps and bounds. In September, we kicked off the year with "Break Your Fast with Breakfast," where we greased up the griddle and cooked up hundreds of pancakes to break the Yom Kippur fast. In October, we began bi-weekly Shabbat services and later in the month we held a Shabbat evening board games night. The board games that were purchased will be part of another event in April when we will visit a local Montreal hospital to donate the games and donate some of our time to the patients. KOACH Shabbat was an experience not to be missed, as we enjoyed the company of rabbinical student Zach Silver and capped of the weekend with a concert by the Israeli reggae band, Acharit HaYamim, Finally, there was no better way to celebrate the 5th night of Chanukah than at KOACH’s Hanukkah soirée. In conjunction with the Ghetto Shul (McGill’s Liberal Orthodox minyan) we lit the candles, devoured sufganiyot, watched the Hanukkah classic "The Hebrew Hammer" and had a dreidl tournament to raise money for charity. With a fantastic semester behind us, we’re looking forward to some -20 degree temperatures and another semester of great KOACH programs.
Au revoir, KOACH McGill [Posted 12/10/07]
